Make Maths Possible
Make Maths Possible is a small group GCSE Foundation Maths programme for teens who have lost confidence, feel stuck, or have quietly started to switch off from maths altogether.
If your teenager has started believing they are just not a maths person, I would love to help change that. In small groups, we rebuild understanding step by step, bring back confidence, and help students start to feel that maths is something they can actually do.
Not rushed. Not overwhelming. Just steady progress that starts to shift how they feel.

Meet Ceri
Hi, I’m Ceri, the founder of EnGage Education.
Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting hundreds of GCSE students, many of whom came to me believing they were “just not good at maths.”
I’ve learnt that success in maths isn’t just about formulas and methods. It’s about confidence. When students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes and take things one step at a time, something begins to change. They stop worrying about getting everything right and start believing that progress is possible.
That’s why I created Make Maths Possible.
I wanted to build the kind of programme I know many students need. A place where they are genuinely known, encouraged and supported. A place where understanding matters more than rushing, and confidence grows alongside mathematical skills. There is nothing better than watching a student who once dreaded maths begin to smile when they solve a problem they never thought they could do, because those moments are about much more than maths. They’re about helping young people believe in themselves again.
I’d love to help your teen take that first step.
Is this your child?
This programme could be a good fit if your teen:
| • Has started saying they are “just not good at maths” or that they will never pass | • Finds maths lessons stressful, confusing, or something they just want to get through |
| • Can sometimes follow maths in the lesson but struggles to remember it afterwards | • Is starting to believe that maths “isn’t for them” |
| • Feels overwhelmed when a question has more than one step | • Feels anxious when they are put on the spot or asked to explain their thinking |
| • Has begun to switch off from maths because it feels easier than trying and getting it wrong | • Wants to improve but does not know where to start or feels like they are already too far behind |
As a parent, you might be seeing the frustration at home, the avoidance of homework, or that quiet loss of confidence that is hard to put into words but easy to recognise. If you are reading this and thinking, “this is us,” you are exactly who this programme was created for.
What is Make Maths Possible?
Make Maths Possible is a small group GCSE Foundation Maths programme designed for teens who need to rebuild confidence as well as mathematical understanding. Each group has a maximum of six students so that every learner is known, supported, and able to ask questions without feeling rushed or overlooked. We meet once a week in a live online lesson where we work through GCSE Foundation Maths in a calm, structured way. Alongside teaching the content, we focus on helping students feel more secure with the basics, more willing to attempt questions, and more confident in their own thinking. Students are encouraged to take things step by step, make mistakes safely, and rebuild the idea that maths is something they can improve at.
Between sessions, they are supported with resources and recap materials so they are not left feeling stuck if something didn’t quite click the first time. This is not a fast paced revision course and it is not about rushing through topics. It is about steady progress, strong foundations, and rebuilding confidence over time; because when a student starts to believe they can do maths, everything else becomes easier to build on.
Why it works
Many students don’t struggle with maths because they are incapable. They struggle because confidence has been chipped away over time. One topic that didn’t make sense. One lesson where they felt lost. One test where everything seemed to fall apart. Once that happens, maths stops feeling like something they are learning and starts feeling like something they are trying to survive.
Make Maths Possible is built around the idea that confidence and understanding have to be rebuilt together. That is why the groups are small. It means students are not hiding at the back or waiting to be picked. They are seen, supported, and gently encouraged to take part in a way that feels safe to them. It is also why we move at a steady pace. Not rushing ahead to “cover the syllabus”, but making sure the foundations are actually secure before building on them. Students are encouraged to talk through their thinking, ask questions at any point, and make mistakes without it feeling like failure. Over time, this changes the way they see maths and the way they see themselves as learners.
When a student starts to feel safe in maths again, they begin to re-engage. When they re-engage, progress follows naturally. That is what this programme is designed to create.
Fees and Enrolment
Confidence doesn’t grow overnight.
Neither does mathematical understanding.
That’s why Maths Made Possible is designed as a termly programme rather than a series of individual lessons. Over the course of a term, students have the time to build strong foundations, develop positive learning habits and experience the small successes that gradually change the way they feel about maths.
Your teen receives weekly live teaching, carefully planned resources, recap materials, support between lessons and a place in a small group where your child is known, encouraged and supported every step of the way.
Autumn Term (September to December)

What happens next?
If you feel Maths Made Possible could be the right fit for your child, the next step is to complete a short application form.
I’ll then review your application and invite your child to complete a short diagnostic assessment. This helps me understand where they are now, identify the support they need and make sure they are placed in the group where they’ll feel most comfortable and make the best progress. It is nothing for your teen to worry about, it will not be given a grade.
I believe every student deserves to feel successful in maths, and that starts by making sure they’re in the right place from day one.
Parents Often Ask
My child has completely given up on maths, is this worth it?
Absolutely! Make Maths Possible is all about making maths possible again. Many teens have a tricky relationship with maths and this programme of learning is designed to be small steps. Confidence is built up week by week, at their pace. This is is much about rebuilding self belief as it is about accessing maths.
My child is really shy, I’m not sure about groups.
The great news is there are never more than 6 in a group and they are mixed by me to ensure a good blend. There is zero pressure to engage openly with the group, answers can be given to just me through chat functions. Camera’s are most welcome to be on, it helps me to read how a student is really doing, however, there is no problem with them being off. They will increase their social confidence when they see how similar they are to their peers.
My teen hates online learning, they will hate this.
Most of us think of the torture of remote learning during the pandemic when we think of online learning. However, Make Maths Possible is nothing like that. It is targeted to the needs of the 6 students in the group and is completely interactive. It is certainly not an hour of sitting, listening, writing and repeat. It is an hour of sharing skills, developing skills, using on and off screen learning methods and light-hearted conversation.
My teen has had other tutors and it didn’t work
Every tutor approaches things differently. Some teens are lucky and click with a tutor really quickly, for others it takes time or they just don’t gel. I focus on getting to know my students and build a rapport with them, this helps to promote open conversation and develops confidence in learning.
My teen says they don’t need help
You are not alone, many parents have teens who say this, however, when they realise that during Maths Made Possible sessions they are understood and supported, rather than judged, they become really engaged and gain valuable confidence and skills from the sessions.
Isn’t 1:1 tuition better?
1:1 suits some teens, however, sessions tend to be intense bouts of learning. For many teens they feel under pressure to have all the answers and to ask questions. Group learning creates a familiar learning environment for teens, they are used to learning in groups, listening to the ideas of their peers and exploring questions and concepts together. This make many teens feel more confident as there is the comfort of others to provide answers and ideas when they are unsure. Group tuition shows them that they are not alone and peers feel the same as them.
Will my teen receive enough attention?
With a maximum of 6 students there is plenty of room for individual attention, this is why groups are capped at this level. Teens get the best of both worlds, I get to know them, can support them as individuals and they can collaborate.
What if other teens in the group are much stronger/weaker than my teen?
This is exactly why there is an application process to ensure that everyone is placed where they need to be. Through a student confidence survey and a diagnostic assessment I am able to ensure that your teen will be placed in the most appropriate group for their skills and confidence. The diagnostic assessment is nothing to worry about, it’s a set of questions for your teen to answer, which usually takes around 30 minutes. Their outcomes are not assessed in terms of grades, instead in areas of strengths and improvements. This will be fed back privately as a family, other teens will only know if you choose to share.
Can you guarantee that my teen will get a Grade 4?
No, I cannot guarantee a grade. I can promise that your teen will receive expert teaching, consistent support, revision guidance, structured learning and a focus on growing confidence and skills.
My teen has been predicted to be a Grade 1 or 2. Is it too late?
It is never too late to gain skills and confidence in maths, I have had students improve their grades multiple levels in a short period of time. Others have needed more time to get to the same space. Your teen would go through an application process and would only be placed in a group where I feel it would benefit them.
We already have rugby/football/dance/swimming
Hobbies are important to teens and I understand that they have often committed to them for a number of years. Family life can be really busy, however, for Maths Made Possible to be effective it is important that your teen attends their sessions consistently.
What if we miss a session?
After each lesson I will provide a recap of the session, the key learning, some examples and an explanation of where any additional tasks and useful videos may be. If your teen still finds the topic tricky I will address this via WhatsApp support and in future lessons. Topics are always revisited at the beginning of sessions to keep skills fresh. The decision not to record has been taken to ensure the safeguarding of all teens within the group.
Why do we need to commit for a whole term?
Confidence is not built in one or two sessions, it takes time. Time to get to know me, time to get to know fellow teens in the group and time for Maths Made Possible to work. Confidence builds through consistency, a full term gives your teen time to settle, develop a routine and experience real wins in their sessions.
How do I know it is worth the investment?
I completely understand. Investing in extra support for your child is an important decision, and I know families want to be confident they’re choosing the right option.
Make Maths Possible is much more than a weekly maths lesson.
Your child will be part of a small, supportive group of no more than six students, giving them regular opportunities to ask questions, build confidence and make consistent progress. Alongside their weekly lesson, they’ll have access to carefully designed resources, video support, help between sessions, and encouragement from both me and their peers.

Why should I pay when school is free?
The Maths Made Possible programme is not the same as school. It is targeted, small group sessions that focus on confidence and skill building. As much as teachers strive to achieve this, it is not always possible with a large cohort of students. This is not replacing lessons that your teen is having in school, it is designed to supplement them.
Is this a revision course?
No, Maths Made Possible is a structured learning programme, designed to develop skills and confidence in teens who find maths challenging. If you are looking for revision courses, these will be advertised as they are running.
Is Make Maths Possible suitable for Home Ed students?
Is Make Maths Possible suitable for Home Ed students?
Absolutely! Generally Home Ed students take spaces in day time groups, these are run slightly differently to support them in working towards their GCSE Foundation Maths. I offer a structured session per week with the flexibility of the Student Hub for accessing additional resources. This version of Maths Made Possible runs during the daytime and follows the Pearson Edexcel iGCSE course.
What if my teen has additional learning needs?
Every teen is different and every teen is welcome. I have designed the application stage in a way that means I have all the information needed to ensure that your teen is signposted to the best possible session for them. This means I can provide you with all the information you need to make an informed choice. If I think your teen is best placed with something else I will always be honest. The wellbeing of our young people is central to everything I do.
